About The Event
Join on this incredibly intimate small class size workshop limited to 4 individuals in the gorgeous San Juan Mountains. We will begin our adventure in the picturesque mountain town of Silverton, Colorado where we will also base ourselves over the duration of the workshop. We will be making our way through areas I love that are lesser known to photographers.
Day 0, July 21:
Arrive to Silverton this afternoon. We will check into our accommodation and explore this quaint mountain town. This evening we will have a group dinner in town at one of my favorite locations. When making your reservations in the Silverton area I recommend the Inn of the Rockie’s at the Historic Alma House. It is a small house and the owners will take great care of us. The general nature of this type of lodging being a smaller B&B is most rooms will have two beds. Please ask for Betty and tell her you are a part of the Joseph Roybal Photography Workshop. Phone: 970.387.5336
Sleep: Silverton
Day 1, July 22:
We will set out from our accommodations early on the first morning and head out to our first location for sunrise looking for flowers and mist. This is the perfect season for the daily rains that come through the area creating for dramatic and gorgeous scenes. We will hopefully see a rainbow one of the afternoons. We will focus on composition, looking how to find the photos, chasing light and post processing later in the mornings each day.
After our morning of shooting we will head back to Silverton to grab breakfast and go over the morning's shoot recapping what worked, what didn't and preparing for our afternoon and evening outing. We will head out after breakfast and if necessary take a rest before heading out mid-morning for the day scouting and shooting. We will continuously be working on compositional technique, reading light and chasing weather to bring home the best images possible. Evening will be spent in another location near Silverton or any of the other great areas nearby.
Sleep: Silverton
Day 2, July 23:
We will rise early to head out for our second morning driving some of the areas 4x4 trails gaining access to back-bowls where meadows of flowers are abundant, creeks of alpine runoff rush past and clouds pass overhead. Ideally we will be able to make our way to Owl Creek Pass and the Silver Jack area. This day will most likely be spent in the field all day as we drive and scout preparing for our evening location.
Sleep: Silverton
Day 3, July 24:
Workshop is finished and participants are free to stay in the area or head home.
This workshop is perfect for those who are looking to see incredible vistas and flowers in a more comfortable setting as we drive from location to location requiring minimal hiking to get our shot.
Fees for this course include instruction over the workshop period, Tony Kuyper's Luminosity Masks, Post-Processing teaching, snacks in-field and either a welcome or farewell dinner on the last evening.
*Note: you need to arrive into Silverton the afternoon of July 21st so when you make your reservations you will need to account for this day. This will be our meeting/greeting afternoon.
What is NOT included: transport to/from Silverton, accommodation and meals while in Silverton. For accommodation: I have blocked out rooms in one of Silverton’s most quaint and unique B&B’s for the group, the Inn of the Rockies at the Historic Alma House. It is a small house and the owners will take great care of us. The general nature of this type of lodging being a smaller B&B is most rooms will have two beds, however those who call in and book soonest will have priority on their arrangements. There are enough rooms for everyone for the nights of the workshop, prices range from $135 up. Please ask for Betty and tell her you are a part of the Joseph Roybal Photography Workshop.
