2024 Photography Workshops
Iceland Ice Caves
March 2-9, 2024
Have you ever wanted to sleep under the stars in one of the most photographic locations on earth? This workshop is for you; we will have all our gear carried by porters so we can focus on making incredible images! This is a once-in-a-lifetime photographic experience where the focus is on you and photographing both the Argentinian and Chilean sides of the Andes from sunrise to sunset.
White Pocket Night Skies
June 6 - 11
Join me and my friend, Matt Payne, on this unique photographic journey to capture the night skies over White Pocket. We will have camp hosts tend to every need there so we can focus on making incredible night sky images in one of the southwest's most incredible and dynamic landscapes.
Cirque
of the Towers
July 7 - 13
In by horseback, out by horseback with camp tended to by the best camp hosts around, Triple D Ranch. Join on seven nights under the stars in one of my absolute favorite locations on the globe. The incredible Cirque of the Towers are a photographer's playground and a location that speaks to the soul. You will come home with images like none other and an experience of a lifetime.
Olympic NP
July 24 - 30
From intimate details of the rainforest to vast mountain vistas to the rugged coast, we’ll be creating evocative images that will tell the story of the area. We’ve planned this workshop to coincide with wildflower season in the alpine regions, and the best time of year for clear, coastal sunsets. No matter the weather, we’ll be working by day and into the night!
Mt Rainier
July 31 - August 5
Mt. Rainier is a gem of the United States towering over 14,000 feet above sea level. This workshop will focus on wildflower meadows, alpine lakes, and grand mountain vistas. The time of the year is perfect for snow on the peaks with fresh wildflower blooms below; we will explore other nearby areas as well such as some gorgeous waterfalls. This workshop is one not to be missed!
Grand Canyon
August 27 - September 6
245 miles down the emerald mile is an experience of a lifetime and to combine this with a photography-focused trip, it becomes an adventure of a lifetime. Each night you will fall asleep under the stars and awake to the sound of the Colorado River a few feet from camp. We will venture down the canyon with walls rising thousands of feet straight up; you won't be disappointed.
Meals, tents, and all camping equipment are provided.
Scotland: Castles and Color
October 13 - 22
Scotland is a home away from home for me and nothing gets me more excited than photographing this country. The light, landscape, and varying conditions themselves make Scotland a photographer's paradise, add into this equation castles and the fall color and you have a trip of a lifetime.
Scotland: Highlands and Skye
October 25 - November 3
The Isle of Skye and the Highlands are two of my favorite locations to photograph. Quaint seaside villages like Portree have an old-world charm popularized in novels to the Old Man of Storr's dramatic spires that rise straight up out of the landscape, and sheep that roam the landscape; you have to see this landscape to believe it.
Antarctica
November 30-December 11
To say this is a landscape like no other is an understatement. And to invite you along on truly an adventure of a lifetime is an honor. This workshop will bring you home with images you will add to your portfolio like no other. You will have the opportunity to photograph day and night from our personal and small sea vessel which we will call home for our duration along the Antarctic Peninsula. We will have regular landings scheduled to capture the wildlife in this pristine location on the globe getting you up close and personal with this landscape and all it has to offer. This is truly a workshop not to be missed.
It's a little known secret I love teaching and working with participants in the field. Each year I host several workshops guiding a select number of participants to locations that inspired me to create some of my favorite images to date. These workshops are small in number, consist of hours of hands-on in-field instruction, a classroom post-processing component each day all ensuring you confidence behind the lens and in post processing at the end. You will return home inspired and with images you will be proud to show.

Whether you're new here or looking to join on another workshop with me, I welcome you and can't wait for you to...

Join a Photography Adventure
I am a landscape photographer who was searching for someone to take me around Colorado to photograph what hopefully would be exceptional shots. Joseph came prepared with snowshoes so that I could easily maneuver the snowy terrain, and was prepared to take me to places that would be of interest to me. When he undertakes a commitment, Joe is always prepared with whatever is needed to make the journey one of interest, adventure and excitement. He has consistently proven to be knowledgeable, resourceful, energetic, courteous and attentive to my needs and special types of scenes that I would want to include in my portfolio. I have photographed with him in Colorado, the Pacific Northwest, Scotland, and am looking forward to a photography/workshop around Iceland in September.
I want to give a big shout out to Joseph Roybal Photography for organizing the trip to Ice Lake Basin and providing some awesome instruction to get better images. There are many ways learn how to better ones photography skills, but I find that hands on, in the field lessons are the best for me. So a big shout out goes to Joseph Roybal and the wonderful workshop he put on. I've attended a few of his outings and workshops and learn something new every time. If you ever get a chance, and what to learn some awesome stuff, check out his website and attend one of his workshops. He's a great guy, awesome photographer, and killer instructor.
Joseph goes above and beyond for his workshop participants, not only as an instructor, but also as a genuine human being. While he will work tirelessly to make sure everyone gets the shot they're looking for, he also takes the time to connect with each person on a personal, individual level. I have been a part of several of Joe's workshops, and am always looking forward to the next one. The amount of personal attention, guidance, and discussion of ideas and perspectives is far above anything I've experienced in any other workshop.
I don't know where to start. Joseph Roybal has supported me in so many different ways as I have evolved as a professional photographer. He was there at the beginning when I learned my very important first lessons as a photographer to just recently advising me on a project I was completing for a major commercial client. In addition, I have participated in several of his "don't miss photo field trips", and walked away with marketable photos each and every time. Most importantly he is the kind of person you want as a friend!
I truly have nothing but the highest praise, appreciation, and respect for Joseph Roybal. He is a one-of-a kind person and a superbly talented photographer, teacher, and mentor. Both in the field with a group and on an individual basis, I’ve experienced first-hand his work ethic and commitment to his clients and his craft. His love of photography and nature is infectious.
Joseph is knowledgeable about all aspects of photography from the purchase of equipment to the printing process. Over the past year, I’ve been both challenged and rewarded working with Joseph as we’ve evaluated, critiqued, and post-processed my images in Lightroom and Photoshop and prepared some for printing. He is sincere and honest in his evaluation and critiques of my work and the work of others as I’ve witnessed in camera clubs where Joseph has been the judge. This tough love quality has nurtured trust and growth. His expertise and guidance have been invaluable in my development as a photographer. Any time I’ve had questions he has been available and responsive.
It has been a pleasure to work with Joseph and to get to know him. I’d highly recommend Joseph to anyone wanting to advance their in-field or post-processing skills.
